Hive Summer Code Camp #3 with Dicey Tech | Defiant & Solidarity Event Spaces
Hive Code Camp is a free 5-day digital making club in the summer holidays! Beginners and confident coders aged 13 to 18 are welcome along for a week of fun activities where you'll learn - or power up - tech skills.
Activity 1: Drone Design
Build a micro drone to your own unique design, tweak the design, then learn to fly it around an obstacle course to carry out a minifigure rescue.
Activity 2: Robot Car
Design, build, programme and control your own robot car. You'll be able to give it pre-set driving instructions, control it remotely, or even set it to respond to obstacles - which will be handy...
Activity 3: Challenge Creation
Devise cunning and unexpected obstacles and traps for the vehicles to get round. Make them automatic or interactive, with pre-programmed moves or sensors reacting to movement.
Activity 4: Race & Rescue!
Make your drone and car work together to get round the course faster than the other teams, and effect a daring rescue of minifigures in jeopardy.
Code Camp is brought to you by Manchester's Hive Learning Network, who have lots of experience running digital events like Coderdojo, Code Club and hacks around the UK. All organisers are DBS-checked.

Microservice Security with Sam Newman | Solidarity Event Space
7pm - 9pm
Microservices Manchester Meetup is back with their 2nd event of the year. This time they have a security focused night with talks from Sam Newman and Anthony Fielding.
Thanks to sponsors Thoughtworks, Moneysupermarket and MRJ Recruitment for their support in organising the meetup.
The event will start at 7pm, Federation House. You'll enjoy some pizza and drinks before talks start, so there will be time to mingle with other attendees.
Sam Newman, author of Building Microservices, will be giving a talk on security titled "Insecure Transit - Microservice Security"
More details here:
Anthony Fielding - Agile Security
Anthony Fielding was a senior software engineer with over 10 years in the industry before he decided to move into information security. Now as a security consultant he spends much of his time breaking applications for a living.
In this talk Anthony discusses how security tends to be an afterthought, as a round of testing only occurring at the end of sprints. He offers a more agile and proactive approach to building in security earlier.
