Advice I would give to my 16 year old self: "Keep doing what you’re doing, you’ve got this!"
Today we spent #5MinutesWith Anca Constantin, People Manager at Equal Experts. Anca lives in Ancoats with her fiancé, talking admin meditation, childhood memories of 'food heaven' and learning to become herself. Thanks for joining us Anca!
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Everything! I am a happy person and I'm usually quite excited about what every day has to offer.
By the way, I like my tea...
... herbal. Sometimes I add lemon (and even honey). I think this might create a certain amount of controversy, so happy to defend my choices when you meet me!
My typical day...
...is different every day. My work is more and more varied, scattered with different projects that keep me on my toes. I'm pretty much responsible for everything that has to do with the amazing people working with us. From recruiting them and making sure they feel welcome, to saying bye when they decide to take a break, and welcoming them back when the break is over.
I can have quiet days when I just clean the loose ends of my inbox, mixed with exciting days when I get to meet interesting people who want to join Equal Experts (or are already part of it), or organise tech events, or when we all come up with new ideas to make the network better.
My most memorable work moment...
I always remember fondly our office "office warming" party in The Federation when we moved in. It was a pivotal moment for all the people that made it happen and an important milestone for Equal Experts in the north and we celebrated it surrounded by great people.
What is the best part of your job?
The people. I am lucky enough to work with a wonderful team and have great co-workers. They make every day in the office worth it.
... and the worst?
All the admin that you can't avoid. Although sometimes you can give it a positive spin, because it can be so mechanical that it almost becomes a form of meditation.
If you could be remembered for one thing, what would it be?
My squeaky voice!
Who or what is your greatest love?
My family! I am very lucky to have an amazing family. They’ve made me who I am now and I am very grateful to them.
What food sums up happiness?
A Romanian chocolate cake called “amandina” that my dad always bought for me when he wanted to spoil me. It’s delicious and its brings back beautiful memories.
What would you tell your 16-year old self?
Keep doing what you are doing, you’ve got this!
What inspires you?
I am a product of my environment (and so is everyone else, I think). I get my inspiration from the people around me, from my friends, my family, my co-workers, I can't just name one person.
What's the best advice that you've been given?
As cliche as it might sound, the best advice came from my mum, and it was “be yourself.” However it took me many years and many failed attempts to be “somebody else” until in the end, I became...myself.

If I wasn't People's Manager at Equal Experts, my 'Plan 'B'' would be...
... to be either a construction engineer, or a mechanical one. I love the logic and clarity that goes into creating something tangible and I’ve always loved math and sciences - particularly physics (with a soft spot for mechanics).
What does The Federation community mean to you?
I see the The Federation as a great community that welcomed Equal Experts and helped us build our first office. There are many people with the same interest here, so it’s great to meet them at events, at the cafe or even in the lift!
What's your favourite quote?
I’m not one to remember quotes, but I’d choose anything wise about having a balanced life.
Tell us a joke.
I’m going through a phase of dad jokes, so here goes:
I ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon.
I’ll let you know
